Hucka - Fight Choreographer

Silver Glass Productions is seeking a skilled Fight Choreographer to create a safe unarmed fight sequence between two actors for our show, Hucka. Hucka is an adaptation of Huck Finn that is the story of a woman's search for safe space. Silver Glass is a NYC movement-based company that presents socially relevant work. Previous shows include alt Hamlet, a response to the Dobbs Supreme Court decision and Quantum Debt, a show about the student debt crisis.
The Fight Choreographer will be responsible for working closely with the director and actors, designing a realistic fight scene and teaching the performers the necessary movements and techniques.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong knowledge of different fighting styles, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to maintaining a safe environment.
Prior experience in choreographing fight scenes for theatre, film, or television is required.
Responsibilities
Design and create a fight sequence for the show
Teach performers the necessary movements and techniques
Ensure safety of performers during fight scenes
Coordinate with directors to align fight choreography with narrative
Adjust choreography as needed during rehearsals
Ensure choreography is realistic and suitable for the characters involved
Provide clear, constructive feedback to performer
Qualifications
Proven experience as a Fight Choreographer
Extensive knowledge of various fighting styles and techniques
Experience in teaching fight choreography
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Commitment to safety and ability to assess potential risks
Flexibility to work with different performance levels and adjust choreography as needed
Relevant certification (SAFD) or training in fight choreography or related field is preferred

Compensation: $400 for the sequence for an estimated 17 hours of work
